DOST stands for Department of Science and Technology. Under this Department is the Science Education Institute that handles undergraduate (and graduate scholarships) for deserving students who will take courses in Science, Engineering and Mathematics.
So why should you be the next DOST scholars?
You should be happy to take note of the following:
1. DOST’s financial assistance, through scholarship privileges, will help you have your dream of earning a college degree.
You may be financially-challenged right now, but once you become DOST scholars, you’ll be provided with financial assistance. If you prefer to study in a public school, your tuition and other fees are now free. But if you prefer to study in private schools, you’ll be entitled to tuition and other school fees not exceeding P40,000 per academic year. You’ll also be provided with book allowance worth P10,000 per school year, as well as monthly stipend amounting to P7,000.00 per month no matter what course you take! Aside from this, you’ll have a P1,000.00 P.E. clothing allowance during your first semester or term as freshman in college.
There’s good news too if you are required to take Summer classes as part of your curricular programs!
If you have Summer classes, you’ll be provided assistance for your tuition fees not exceeding P1,500.00. And should you need to buy books, you’ll just be required to submit your official receipts for the books you bought for up to P500.00 and that will be reimbursed to you. Then for your two’months Summer Term, two months’ worth of stipend will be released to you too.
DOST-SEI will also provide you with a graduation clothing allowance worth P1,000.00 which will be released after your graduation, of course.
2. DOST’s support will help you get through your personal and academic difficulties.
Ongoing DOST scholars often feel under pressure because of the immense responsibility of meeting the requirements of the scholarship. Aside from this, they also experience family and personal difficulties which often affect their academic performance. But worry not. If you become the next DOST scholars and you study in universities with many other recipients, you’ll find a home away from home. This is through the office and learning resource center that are provided for the implementation of scholarship programs.
DOST satellite offices usually conducts consultation hours to assist you.
Besides, they also organize seminar-workshops, assemblies, outreach projects and other programs as part of their S&T Learning Assistance Program (STLAP). These events that are designed for your holistic and personal growth will help you cope up with trials and problems you may encounter within the duration of your scholarship.
By the way, the good news about this is your scholars’associations may even request for DOST-SEI’s support for these programs. You may present a proposal for your associations’ STLAP and make sure to submit the documents they will require you to attach to your proposals. They’ll review your documents so you’ll just have to wait for their response.

And how can you be the next DOST scholars?
If you are natural-born Filipinos, in good health, have good moral characters, and you belong to the top 5 percent of the non-STEM strand, or members of the STEM Senior High School graduating class, then you have a big chance to become recipients of the scholarship. You must also be at least four-year residents of your municipality. And of course you have to pass the qualifying exam on October 20, 2o19.

Accomplish every part of the application form that needs to be accomplished. Then prepare the other requirements such as photocopy of birth certificate and parents’ income tax return (ITR). Or you may request for certification of indigency from your barangays or municipalities. Also prepare two recent 1″x 1″ pictures, and three consecutive electric bills from the current year.

Where should you submit your documents?
You may submit your documents to the DOST-Science Education Institute Office in Bicutan, Taguig City. But if you’re far from this area, you may submit your application forms and other requirements to the DOST regional office nearest your place of residence.
Also, follow the instructions indicated on the brochure so that you’ll be reassured to be issued test permits and primer.
